Finally...

Sasktel finally fixed our internet the other day. I hate them. After that, it only took Blake and I minimal (and by minimal, I mean maximal...is that a word?) effort to figure out how to make it work on my computer.

Get ready for the return of "Of This and That" to your daily browsing schedule. I can actually make posts again.

Another SNL Digital Short

Wow, IMO this beats out Lazy Sunday. I laughed my ass off at this, hopefully you do to.

Also, speaking of Justin Timberlake, he's had some other good ones on SNL. Here's one of my favs he did with Jimmy Falon a while ago. Enjoy.

Coming Soon..

I should start making posts again shortly. Since I moved into this new place the only internet access that I've had has been on my work laptop using the wireless connection that we steal from the neighbour. According to Sasktel, we should have our own internet connection today...

On a side note, all of the Kerry Joseph jerseys and other KJ merchandise were half-off at the Rider store this weekend. Foreshadowing? Probably. Austin demands accuracy from his QBs. I'd say "Welcome back Marcus" for next season...I've got no problem with that. KJ is a play-maker when his knees are healthy, but this hasn't been the case since about week 1 of last season.

Where is the Father?

A math problem with a twist at the end! Bonus points if you can point out a mistake...

Edit: Turns out I'm a moron. There is no mistake.

Please Don't Judge

I already got an email from my Mom this past weekend telling me that some of my posts make me seem gay...this one certainly won't help.

Saturday I was in a bonspiel at the Callie with three other guys from physics - Ben, Derek and Steve. Our team name: The Sweeping Beauties. There was a prize for best costume that we got SCREWED OUT OF. Yeah, I'm putting that out there. We lost to this team of girls who spray painted their vests gold and called themselves the "Golden Gurls". Woopty doo. I froze my nips off for nothing. Ah well, it was a good time and I think we helped the Geology students raise some money for...I dunno...importing some salty rocks.

Christmas Party?

I've been debating whether or not I want to have a christmas party, probably in the party room upstairs in my building. Any interest?

Moving...Again

Blake and I managed to find a pretty nice house in Lakeview for a reasonable price. The only downside of the house is that the bedrooms are rather small (especially compared to the one that I have now), and both of us have large beds. I suppose that the spin I could put on that is that if I'm really drunk and manage to make it to my bedroom door, there's a good chance of landing on my bed if I pass out.

Check out Blake's Blog for a few pics of our new place.

The Perfect Girl vs. The Perfect Toilet

Collegehumour.com recently had a great article about attributes that we, as men, look for in the perfect girl and how they remarkably overlap with what we look for in a perfect toilet. In particular, we seem to appreciate the following qualities in both:
  • Smell nice.
  • Have not been used by a lot of guys.
  • Be disease-free.
  • Be worthy of sharing with your friends.
  • Not require protection to use.
  • Be pube-free
  • Appear clean enough for your mother to approve.
  • Not mind being peed on.
  • Have no fetuses inside.
  • Have soft toilet paper nearby for when you’re finished.

Charmed and Dangerous says "No Thanks" to Mixed Nuts

We played great tonight. I'm not sure what the score was, other than the fact that we severely out-played them. The new graduate student who joined our team was a great late-round pick-up for us. He's pretty much our offence. Defence is pretty fantastic on our team as well. Thanks to Shaun for taking a ball in the pooper for me. Like I told you last night, I'd rather it was your butt than my face...unless you buy me dinner ;)

    My stars for the game:
    1. Gia Khoriauli: Probably involved in every goal that we got on top of scoring at least 3 of his own. I see a team MVP nomination coming his way...
    2. Kamal Benslama: Wow, that was a great top shelf goal from half-court. As much as I hate to say it, "Team ATLAS" is our Thornton/Cheechoo
    3. Nikolay Kolev: Got himself a goal and always seemed to be in the right place to block a shot/steal the ball.
I think the first two spots are pretty obvious but the third one could be so many people from our team...I picked one (plus, I gotta represent ILC!)

BTW, if you're interested in the aerodynamics of a soccer ball, they're being demonstrated before your eyes above.

    Meh.

As I sit here grading labs I have come to the conclusion that the combination of milk and cookies is grossly overrated. I find that my oreo cookies taste exactly the same after I dip them, even if I let them soak for an extended period of time (on the order of seconds). Maybe I need to try different cookies? Perhaps I should set up some sort of apparatus to suspend the cookie in the milk for a longer time frame leaving me with a soggy treat? *shrug*

Guess I'll drink around the floaties in my milk now...

    You're a rabid anti-dentite!

JERRY: So you won't believe what happened with Whatley today. It got back to hime that I made this little dentist joke and he got all offended. Those people can be so touchy.
KRAMER: Those people, listen to yourself.
    JERRY: What?
KRAMER: You think that dentists are so different from me and you? They came to this country just like everybody else, in search of a dream.
JERRY: Kramer, he's just a dentist.
KRAMER: Yeah, and you're an anti-dentite.
JERRY: I am not an anti-dentite!
KRAMER: You're a rabid anti-dentite! Oh, it starts with a few jokes and some slurs. "Hey, denty!" Next thing you know you're saying they should have their own schools.
JERRY: They do have their own schools!
    KRAMER: Yeah!....
Looks like our buddy Michael Richards really went off the deep end. Here's a censored version of the little rant that he spewed off at a black man in the audience who had been heckling him:

    "Fifty years ago we'd have you upside down with a f***ing fork up your ass." Richards continued, "You can talk, you can talk, you're brave now motherf***er. Throw his ass out. He's a n***er! He's a n***er! He's a n***er! A n***er, look, there's a n***er!"

There's not much to say about that other than "Wow"...

    Fooled You!

Wednesday was horrible, I couldn't really move all day. Yesterday I felt fine, almost good enough to go play soccer. Yet here I am today with a headache and coughing up something that looks like the broccoli soup that my mom made one time, and one time only.

Who told these illnesses that they could mutate with a sense of humour? The old "fooled you!" trick might work great for political campaigns, but let's leave it out of cases of personal well-being.

    Blair out.

    Lessons From a Bachelor

Cereal lasts a really long time when you're not sharing it with anyone. Milk...not so much.

    Spider-Man 3

I'll try to avoid talking about that horrible ass-whooping we took yesterday and instead present you with this fantastic new trailer for Spider-Man 3. It looks damn good if you ask me.

    Check me out!

I've finally arrived at the Department of Physics website. It's nice to be acknowledged as part of the team... I'm actually pretty happy with my photo. I think I'm somewhere between Iaonna's beauty shot and Blake's mugshot.

    BEGIN RANT

I didn't think that it was possible for an entire lab section to do an experiment wrong. Leave it to the engineers to go ahead and take education to a new low. I'm not sure what they teach in high school these days but apparently it has nothing to do with learning and all to do with ignorance. Read the damn lab manual people.

    END RANT

Here's a haiku that I wrote last year while teaching Phys 119 to an entire section of engineers:

    Why can't they get it?
    Two resistors in series

    And yet they still fail.

    Here Kitty Kitty Kitty...

One down, two to go! Wow, what a game. I've never seen our defense as inspired as they were yesterday. I knew that we had that kind of talent on our team, the problem has always been that they don't show up. Well, they showed up yesterday and they left Burris completely clueless. If our offense can play with half the intensity that our defense did then there's a spot waiting for us in the Grey Cup final.

    Blair's Three Stars:
    1. Kenton Keith; 141 rushing yards, 2 TDs. Our team lives and dies by KK
    2. James Johnson; 2 clutch interceptions. Can't expect much more from a rookie DB
    3. Marcus Howell; 266 yards and 1 TD on punt/kick off returns. This guy gave our special teams a fit!
Honourable mentions: Maurice Lloyd, Matt Dominguez and, most importantly, Smilin Hank for gift wrapping this one for us.

    Accelerating my receding hairline...

If someone can explain to me what a "Horzanta Pasitian" is, it would help me mark these damn labs. This particular example is not the result of a language barrier, it's the level of spelling that can get you through a Regina high school these days.

    Destiny...

I thought my bus was at 7:00PM. Turns out it was there at 6:56 and I missed it. That kind of pissed me off because I was tired and hungry but whatever, it was my bad. I hopped onto the 7:26 bus, just me and two cute girls. I sat about 5 seats behind them. I watched them cuddle and neck with each other the whole way home.... It was my destiny.

    Lucky Louie

For those of you haven't had the good fortune of stumbling across this great HBO sitcom, it comes with my highest recommendation. Think "Everybody Loves Raymond", but with a hell of a lot of swears and vulgar sexual language. Ah, my kind of show. Here's a link to a bit torrent of the entire first season:

    Halloween Howler

Well the pub crawl was a success/complete failure. On the one hand, I had a blast as Sherrif RumpRanger. On the other hand, I puked on the bus and woke up on the floor of my bathroom. The verdict? Let's do it again! Yeeeehaw!

Blake isn't in the picture. He had a pretty good Roman costume. Toga! Toga!

I may or may not have been violated...

Living on my own at the prime age of 23, I figured that the only middle aged woman handling my underwear would be a cougar that I picked up at Bart's. It turns out that if you arrive in the laundry room one minute after your laundry has finished drying, you are privileged enough to witness a 45 year old woman pulling your undies out off the dryer and carelessly throwing them on a table in the middle of the room. How am I supposed to sleep at night knowing that there's a chance that she smelled every pair as she pulled them out? Or maybe she took a pair for herself, something to keep under the pillow for lonely nights.... I better take inventory.

    OoooOOOoooooh! Halloween!

Are y'all lookin forward to halloween? I hadn't put much thought into a costume, but tonight I decided that I wanted to wear my cowboy hat. A quick trip to Value Village later and you've got Sherrif Jasper, at your service. Let's see how many people can slam me without making reference to Broke Back Mountain :) Here, I'll start you off:

Oh Blair, you make such a wonderful Woody!

Here are some pics from last year. This was one of the fanciest costumes I've ever had, we all made the turtle shells out of wire from coat hangers and paper mache.

    John, I respectfully disagree

Apparently Ethan Albright, a lineman for the Washington Redskins, took exception to his player rating in Madden 2007. Here is an excerpt (Yes, I know it's probably a fake, but it's pretty damn funny if you pretend it's not):

It’s also pretty wonderful that my awareness rating was 59. You make it sound like I wake up in the morning, helplessly shit and piss myself, then lose three of my teeth before I discover that I am trying to eat a rock for breakfast. Fuck, John, I understand you saying that I am slow and lacking athleticism, but a rating like this pretty much labels me as retarded. Rod “He Hate Me” Smart has a 52 in this category. Electronic Arts is saying that seven rating points separate me and the breathing embodiment of the perfect oxymoron. Rod Smart struggled to arrange words in sentence form. Cave men had better hold of the English language. The only actions that separate point values of ignorance at this embarrassing level are things like using your own toothbrush to wipe your ass. I basically edged out Rod by my lack of shit teeth. If I take a night school class, could you bump me up to a 60?

Couldn't have said it better myself...

"Ambition is like a frog sitting on a Venus's-flytrap. The flytrap can bite and bite, but it won't bother the frog because it only has little tiny plant teeth. But some other stuff could happen and it could be like ambition."

    Fear the stingrays!

It seems as though the delicate truce shared by man and stingray for generations has been broken. Folks, this is war.

MIAMI, Florida (Reuters) -- A leaping stingray stabbed an 81-year-old Florida boater in the chest, authorities said Wednesday, leaving its poisonous stinger lodged close to his heart in an incident recalling the one that killed Australian TV naturalist Steve Irwin last month.

Fire Department officials in Lighthouse Point, about 30 miles north of Miami, said James Bertakis was in a small recreational boat with two grandchildren Tuesday when the spotted eagle ray leaped aboard and struck him.

    On Roughriders!

Great win by the Riders last night! With the Evil Empire officially eliminated from the playoffs today, it's time to get focused on Calgary for the Western Semis. Stick it to Burri$!!

    Whatcott

Regina's own Bill Whatcott made the Daily Show a while back. You may remember Bill as the guy who posts anti-homosexuality fliers on your car in the parking lots, or maybe as the guy who brings giant posters of aborted babies to the university.I hope they portray him fairly...

    The Future is Here...Now

MIT has developed what I consider to be THE coolest drawing board to date. It's a completely interactive digital drawing board that brings your drawings to life. Maybe we can trade our useless empty shell of a lab building for one of these bad boys.

    My Apartment

Not everyone has had a chance to see my apartment yet. If you are in this group (and not currently living in South Korea...) then I suggest you head on over sometime.

    My fairly boring entrance way.

Nice kitchen, eh? Many experiments have already taken place here. I called the first one "rice".

    Aaah, student life

For the days that I feel like just wearing chaps

My cozy living room. Never eeeeeever will I buy from the brick again.

My kitchen table. I designed and built it from scratch myself. So many of you had such little faith in me! Benefit of having an entire table surface made of floor tiles - I sweep my table after supper. Booo ya!

    Ooooh, tile-y!

Aaah, my baby. 30" wide screen complete with a top notch surround system. Yeah, I spoiled myself but I've made good use of it. It's nice that my apartment walls are made of cement, I can watch movies at deafening levels.

There's a nice divider between the living room and my kitchen. Just on the other side of that wall is a stack of empties. It's like...an empties shield.

    My throne!

    Look, my bathroom is colour-coordinated!

My closet, complete with guitar easy-reference posters

I wired some speakers all the way from my living room so that the Barry White goes wherever I go...

My whole apartment seems to have some kind of brown theme.

So there you have it...I think I'm spoiled for a grad student, but the suffering begins now when I can no longer afford to eat.

    My first hello

Hey Everyone (of course, "everyone" probably pertains to my mom...)

Don't expect to see me spill my guts on here, I mostly just want to use this as a way of relaying quirky stories and puzzling things that I come across on the net. My first order of business will be to post pics of my apartment for those of you who haven't had a chance to come see it yourself yet (bastards!)

    Anyhow, hope you enjoy
